In this episode of Tuesday Tips, architect Jonathan Richert joined us to discuss facility upgrades that make a difference.
Here are this session’s top three tips, or watch the full video below:
1. Align facilities with school brand and mission. Your school building should reflect your educational focus, whether it’s performing arts, technology, or classical education. Thoughtful design elements—like themed graphics, materials, and layouts—help reinforce your brand and engage students and families.
2. Make schools feel like schools. High school students, in particular, want their school to look and feel like a high school. Elements like furniture, materials, and signage can help create an environment that resonates with students and enhances retention.
3. Embrace sustainable design practices. Schools can significantly improve efficiency with simple, passive sustainability strategies like orienting buildings correctly for sunlight, shading windows to regulate temperature, and using natural ventilation. Even small updates in existing buildings can make a big impact.
