Tuesday Tips Written Communication For Schools

In this episode of Tuesday Tips, we were joined by Marin Smith, Content Manager at Grow Schools, to discuss effective school communication strategies from the new “Connect Through Communication” guide.

Here are this session’s top 3 tips:

  1. Define your school’s voice with clear descriptors. Your school’s voice is the consistent personality that comes through in all communications, making you recognizably “you” across all channels. Workshop specific attributes (friendly, professional, empathetic, inspirational) with your team, and remember that the school’s voice represents your collective identity, not just one person.
  2. Create direct, action-oriented calls to action. Every communication should answer “what should the reader do next?” Replace vague phrases like “learn more” with specific directives like “schedule a tour today” or “give $25 to support the library.” Use action verbs, create a sense of urgency, and make CTAs visually stand out.
  3. Use AI as a collaborative tool, not a replacement. Introduce AI to your communications guide and example content to teach it your school’s voice. Provide specific context about audience and purpose when generating content, give feedback to refine outputs, and always review AI-generated content carefully to ensure it maintains your authentic style
