In this episode of Tuesday Tips, we were joined by charter school board member Kim Lavallee to discuss all things school growth.
Here are the conversation’s top tips:
- Craft cohesive messaging for enrollment. Schools need a clear and unified message about their mission and vision. Every team member should communicate consistently when discussing the school with the community, emphasizing “brag and share” moments that reflect the school’s strengths.
- Listen to teachers to guide retention strategy. Transparency about budgets and listening to teachers’ needs are key. Benefits, work-life balance, and non-monetary perks are crucial for teacher retention. Engage in open feedback loops to better understand what will make a difference for staff.
- Prepare early for facility challenges. Find charter-friendly lenders and negotiate leases thoroughly, preferably with the guidance of a trusted lawyer.
